He was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Noble County, to Chester Leroy and Erma Lucille Hontz Stump. On Dec. 3, 1949, in Etna, at the United Methodist Parsonage, he married Ellie D. Miller, who preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2014.
He was a lifetime Noble and Kosciusko County area resident, and he graduated in 1948 from North Webster High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the maintenance department at Maple Leaf Farms in 2000 after 23+ years and formerly worked at Monsanto, Ligonier, for 13 years.
He was a member of Salem Community Church and American Legion Post 253, North Webster, where he was a past commander.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie (and spouse Kurt) Church, Huntington, and Diane (and spouse Jerry) Schuh, Warsaw; a son, David (and spouse Nancy) Stump, Ligonier; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joy Weimer, Ligonier, and Judy Crider, Churubusco. He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Pastor Gary Colbe officiating. Burial is at Salem Cemetery, Wilmot, with graveside rites performed by North Webster American Legion.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
