AKRON - Jack E. Sausaman, 84, of 11068 E. Ind. 14 Akron, died at 8:52 p.m. Jan. 29, 2011, in Marion General Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Rochester, to Clifford G. and Gladys I. Bowman Sausaman. On Nov. 30, 1953, in Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, he married Marjory J. Study, who died June 20, 2003.

He started working at Sonoco Paper Products, Akron, April 27,1959, and retired March 31, 1990. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1107, Rochester. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. He was an avid Chicago Cub and I.U. basketball fan. He was a graduate of Akron High School. He mowed his lawn in his own fashion and would not let anyone else mow for him. He looked forward to spending time in the round table discussions during his daily visits to the Akron Country Kitchen.

Surviving are a daughter, Penny (and spouse Rick) Hisey, Macy; three sons: Jack (and spouse Calleen) Sausaman, Syracuse; Dave (and spouse Kandi) Sausaman, Rochester; and Bryan (and spouse Shelly) Sausaman, Yellow Creek Lake; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Sausaman, and a sister, Katherine Sparks.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Lowell Burrus officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery with graveside military rites by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343 and the Leroy Shelton American Legion Post 36, both in Rochester.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
