NORTH MANCHESTER – Jack Durwood Hathaway, 71, North Manchester, died at 4 p.m. Aug. 20, 2013, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 27, 1942, in North Manchester, to Durwood and Marcella Boyer Hathaway. In 1962, he married Diane Hepler. On Feb. 25, 1984, in Silver Lake, he married Patsy Carol Spiegle, who died in 1998.
He was a 1960 graduate of Central High School, North Manchester. He received his bachelor’s degree from Manchester College. He worked for First National Bank, Claypool, owned J&R Car sales, and worked for Wabash Valley Manufacturing in Silver Lake. He retired from Hand Industries, Warsaw, and worked part time for Bechtel, Bedford. He was a member of Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, and the Masonic, Eagles and Moose lodges. He enjoyed fishing, sprint car racing and Western movies. He was an excellent cook, and especially loved his family.
He is survived by three children, Jeff (and spouse Diane) Hathaway and Kelly (and spouse Dan) Hale, all of Silver Lake; and Jaclyn (and spouse Joseph) McGuigan, Fort Wayne; three stepchildren: Kim S. Graham and Kip Allen, both of Warsaw; and Kyle Allen, Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Garrison, North Manchester. He was preceded in death by his brother, Todd Hathaway.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Calling will from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
