Ivy Tech Set For New Campus

Ivy Tech State College - Warsaw will open its doors for fall classes at its new location in the United Office Complex, 3755 Lake City Highway. Weekend classes begin Aug. 17 and weekday classes begin Aug. 19.
The state legislature's budget committee recently approved a lease agreement between Ivy Tech and Sprint, owner of the building. Contractors are readying the 20,000-square-foot space to accommodate the current level of programming and services.
Meanwhile, Ivy Tech staff are registering students at the Lakeview Middle School location, 850 E. Smith St., the campus home since 1991.
"The staff are doing a beautiful job of advising and registering students while packing up for our move," said Joann Walgamuth, Warsaw campus executive dean.
"This is a very hectic time for us. We know moving into our beautiful new campus will make all our efforts worthwhile," she said.
A dedication ceremony and ribbon-cutting will be at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at the new facility. Open house hours will be after the ceremony until 6 p.m.
In April, Ivy Tech officials announced a long-term commitment to remain in Warsaw. The move to the new campus is the first phase of a four-part plan to expand educational offerings for the benefit of Kosciusko County residents and businesses.
The objective of Phase 1 is to get the new site up and running in time for the fall 2002 semester. Plans for Phase 2 call for adding a science lab, additional computers to expand computer training and general remodeling, to be completed in time for the 2003-04 school year.
In Phase 3, the college plans to expand its presence to 30,000 square feet by the beginning of the 2004-05 school year, enabling the college to add new programs. Current plans call for laboratories for medical assisting and certified nursing programs, an additional computer lab and several new classrooms.
In Phase 4, the college hopes to secure funding from state government and private sources to construct a new, state-of-the-art campus similar to other new facilities Ivy Tech has built in Lawrenceburg and Anderson. This phase of the plan may take as long as 10 years to complete. [[In-content Ad]]
