The AIC will present the scholarship to Irwin in Kosciusko County Tuesday.
Irwin spent six years working with children at the nursery at Warsaw Community Church. She volunteered with a program called “Blitz” where she helped in a variety of ways. She served as a peer tutor for three years and worked with her fellow students who had disabilities. She also participated in Family Career Center Leaders, an organization that encourages students to be productive.
Irwin attends Manchester University. She plans to study social work and hopes to help children with social and emotional needs.
One student from across the state is awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship recipient is a spring 2012 graduate from an Indiana high school who planned to attend a school of higher education in Indiana in the fall of 2012. Eligibility required applicants to be a child or grandchild of an Indiana county employee of an AIC affiliate office.
The recipient was announced at the AIC’s Annual Conference and at a County Commissioners’ meeting in her home county. The conference took place in late September.
