SYRACUSE - Irene Ferverda, 97, of North Webster, died at 9:50 p.m. Oct. 13, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.

She was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Syracuse, to Eli and Osee Kiser Shock. On Aug. 18, 1934, in Syracuse, she married Hiram B. Ferverda, who died Dec. 11, 2007.

She was a lifetime area resident and graduated from Syracuse High School in 1930. She retired in 1971 from the Leesburg State Bank after 17 years. She formerly worked as a secretary at Syracuse High School for four years, was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm. She was a member of North Webster Senior Citizens; Hi Neighbors Club, North Webster; and North Webster Church of God where she participated in the Just Older Youth Group, formerly taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She volunteered at Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse, for 20 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Sue (and spouse Nub) Niles, North Webster, and Beverly (and spouse David) Carey, Leesburg; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, two granddaughters, a great-granddaughter, three sisters and five brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Webster Church of God with Pastors Jeff Boyer and Dennis Judy officiating. Burial will be in McClintic Cemetery, Syracuse.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
