She was born March 22, 1919, in Lewisburg, W.Va., to Howard and Ida Marm Dozier Linthicum. On Sept. 26, 1936, in LaGrange, she married John Edward Robert Kitchen, who died Nov. 3, 2003.
Godly women are writing their history not on the pages of their own book, but in the lives of those around them whom they love and serve. She spent her life unknown by the world in the narrow circle of her home within which she labored increasingly for God, her family and others. Her firm spiritual foundation became a cornerstone for many. She prayed without ceasing, interceding for friends and family.
She had lived in the Rome City area since she was 16, coming from West Virginia. She retired from Rome City School after working many years in the cafeteria. She was a member of Rehobeth Missionary Church, Albion, and enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Surviving are three sons: John Robert (and spouse Marcia Ann) Kitchen, Rome City; Kenneth (and spouse Laura) Kitchen, Matthews; and Michael (and spouse Denise) Kitchen, Crown Point; seven daughters: Marie (and spouse Dan) Donat, Mt. Vernon, Wash.; Marilyn (and spouse Jack) Klinefelter, Warsaw; Marceil Ritter, Loveland, Colo.; Marcia Kay (and spouse Mike) Wooten, Wawaka; Maxine (and spouse Don) Hunter, Acme, Mich.; Mary (and spouse Steve) Beha, Albany, Ohio; and Melody (and spouse Brett) Huffman, Kendallville; 31 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ed Linthicum, Auburn, and Albert Bennett, Big Island, Va.; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Linthicum, Goshen. She was preceded in death by nine brothers, a sister, a grandchild, a great-grandchild and a son-in-law, Ron Ritter.
Services will be private with the Revs. Gerald Ringenberg and Jack Worth officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery near Rome City. Casketbearers will be Jack Klinefelter Jr., John Klinefelter, Mark Acres, John Anthony Kitchen, Todd Wooten, Stevie Beha and Anthony and Caleb Kitchen.
