PIERCETON – Informational meetings to preview South Whitley Elementary School’s renovated and expanded building plans and plans for Pierceton Elementary School’s new facility have been scheduled for the next two Monday evenings.
Whitko superintendent Steve Clason and school board members will be at the South Whitley school cafeteria Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m. Parents of students, staff and community members are encouraged to attend. The evening includes a short musical presentation by the school’s choir, followed by a short regular business meeting and then a presentation about changes to the building.
An informational meeting for interested Pierceton parents and community members is set for Jan. 27 at Pierceton Elementary School at 6:30 p.m.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and will last throughout the 2014-2015 school year, according to Clason, who talked about the project Tuesday.
Parents will be interested to learn that students from both schools will probably have to take classes at the middle school south of Larwill throughout the year. There won’t be enough space during the construction phase to keep children in regular classroom situations, Clason said.
Work is slated to begin this summer, though the bids are still outstanding and no contractors have been selected for the $22.7 million project.
The superintendent said students will be as insulated and isolated from the actual work as much as possible.
“Having been through building renovations a few times, as a teacher and as an administrator, it’s amazing that the kids actually focus better when a project like this is going on,” Clason said. “They adapt well and have to focus a little harder because of the distractions.”[[In-content Ad]]
