Indiana Flame Baseball, a 15 Under select team comprised of young men from the surrounding communities, recently won its second national title in the past three years.

The local squad took the crown by sweeping through the 15U New Era Cap Classic National Tournament in Buffalo, N.Y., 7-0.

The tournament consisted of 30 teams from 12 states, as well as Canada.[[In-content Ad]]In pool play, the Flame defeated the GBS DevilCats (Defreetsville, N.Y.), the Mississauga North Tigers (Mississauga, Ontario), Team New Era Gold (DePew, N.Y.) and the Niagara Falls Falcons (Welland, Ontario).

By going 4-0 in pool play, the Flame earned an overall No. 2 seed heading into the championship round.

In the championship round, the Flame advanced to the finals by winning games over the Keystone Nationals (Mechanicsburg, Pa) and the Upstate Vipers (Albany, N.Y.).

The championship game pitted the undefeated Flame against another team with an unblemished record, who had also earned the No. 1 overall seed, the Pittsburg Diamond Dawgs of Allison Park, Pa.

Both teams traded runs in the first and third innings, leaving the score at 2-2 going into the fourth - an inning that would be very beneficial to the Flame.

After drawing back-to-back walks to open the frame, the Flame scattered 11-straight hits and pushed across 13 runs to take a commanding 15-2 lead.

The Flame held the Dawgs scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, resulting in the mercy rule taking effect.

Before the tournament began, the boys from Indiana Flame were labeled the "Dream Team" by the tournament committee.

With the honor, the boys had the opportunity of standing side-by-side with the Buffalo Bisons, a Triple-A minor league team, during the National Anthem as part of the tournament's opening ceremonies.
