INDIANAPOLIS - The holidays are the season of giving, and the Indiana Historical Society, along with 11 other Indianapolis attractions, is celebrating the spirit of the season by giving visitors the gift of free admission and other additional offerings during their appointed times as during the "12 (Free) Days of (Indy) Christmas."

The Indiana History Center, which will celebrate its day on Dec. 14, is at 450 W. Ohio St., downtown Indianapolis.

In addition to enjoying the all-new Holidays in the Heartland exhibition, visitors also will have the chance to step into a scene from "A Christmas Story" and take a photograph with the infamous leg lamp.

Other entertainment for the visit includes a free hands-on, take-home craft activity in Eli Lilly Hall, as well as continuous showings of a certain classic holiday film in the Cole Porter Room.

Interested shoppers can buy Indiana-related products in the Basile History Market. Those wishing to give the gift of membership will receive a $5 discount, as well as an IHS tote bag. IHS members receive a 10-percent discount in the History Market, and complimentary gift wrapping for purchases also is available.

For more information on the "12 (Free) Days of (Indy) Christmas," call the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association at 800-323-INDY or visit online at www.indy.org
