This year’s fifth annual Idol Nite to raise funds for the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund is April 27 at the Wagon Wheel Theatre.

The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets can now be purchased at the Wagon Wheel Theatre. Tickets are $14 for adults, and $8 for children.

Those who attend Idol Nite donate funds in support of the contestant who they like the best.

Idol Nite contestants raise their own financial support as well.

All funds raised from Idol Nite go to the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund.

The fund, administered by the K21 Health Foundation, provides assistance to residents of Kosciusko County who are dealing with financial difficulties due to a cancer diagnosis, according to Rich Haddad, K21 Health Foundation president.

The assistance the fund  provides includes, but is not limited to, items such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities, insurance, food, car payments and prescription medications.

On Idol Nite funds are raised to help meet these needs.

During the competition, a prize will be given to People’s Choice, the contestant who raises the most funds for the cancer care fund before and during the event.

There is an adult category, and the Future Idol category for children. There also is a Judge’s Choice award given to the Idol who performed the best.

Matt Niemier will serve as emcee for the evening.

Judges include Josh Elam, who will serve as Warsaw’s version of Steven Tyler; Katie Kubacki, who will play the role of Jennifer Lopez; and Greg Horton, who will play the role of Simon Cowell.

There will be face painting, and pizza and soda will be sold.

In 1999, a group of Kosciusko County citizens banded together to continue the work of raising funds to assist individual cancer patients.

The Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fundraising Committee organizes a gala, auction, Idol Nite and golf outings, which benefit the fund.

Individual donations, estate gifts and memorials for loved ones also allow the fund to grow and support patients and families in the community who have a financial need.

“The group wanted to make sure they worked to help local residents who were fighting cancer,” Haddad said. “Since then 100 percent of proceeds that are raised go directly to families in the middle of their cancer fight helping them with financial assistance toward their living expenses during their fight.”

Last year, there were 110 families served by the fund, and $179,072.55 raised.

Annually, $150,000-$200,000 is administered from the fund to families.

Haddad said there is an ongoing need for support because the fund helps new families every year.

He said there also are additional expenses such as the gas money it takes to go to treatment and medication costs.

“It is critical we help them maintain the most normal life they can while they go through their fight with cancer,” Haddad said.

Haddad said the Cancer Care Fund helps with living expense issues.

People who want to donate to the fund can do so by mailing checks to K21 Health Foundation, benefitting the KCCF Fund, 2170 North Pointe Drive, P.O. Box 1810, Warsaw, IN 46581.

To apply for financial assistance through the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund, contact the Health Services Pavilion, 1515 Provident Drive, Suite 240, Warsaw, IN 46580.
