Humane Society

They say you cannot fix "stupid." However, you can educate yourself to know the truth.
I recently learned that local humane societies and the Humane Society of the United States were two entirely different organizations.
In talking with Trish Brown of the Animal Welfare League, they act as the local humane society in their efforts to save the lives of flesh-and-blood pets and animals. Through efforts to adopt, spay and neuter, this local organization takes in stray, neglected and abused pets. Their work is done with limited funds, and your donations are needed.
However, the Humane Society of the United States, even though their letterhead says "humane society," they are not affiliated with your local animal shelter. Despite the dogs and cats on their fundraising ads, they do none of the above activities of your local shelter in spaying, neutering or adopting. And even though they are constantly asking for donations, they are not strapped for money.
HSUS spends millions on programs to economically cripple meat and dairy producers, eliminate the use of animals in biomedical research labs, phase out pet breeding, zoos and circus animal acts, and demonize hunters as crazed lunatics. Their goals have nothing to do with animal shelters.
In 2005, HSUS joined with Fund for Animals to set a budget of "over 95 million dollars" with the formation of a new "political organization" which will allow for a more substantial investment of resources in political and lobbying activities. Already in the states of Florida, Arizona, California, New Jersey and Iowa, lobbying efforts and huge sums of money have scored victories against livestock producers. Work is now being done in the state of Ohio - and recently an office for HSUS was opened in Bloomington, Ind.
Members of the PETA organization have now gone to work for HSUS. HSUS has reported that they have made financial contributions to the terrorist Animal Liberation Front. This group has been associated with violence, bombing and vandalism in the effort of abolition of all animal agriculture.
So having given you this information - and you can Google this and check it for yourselves on www.freerepublic.com
I would urge you to gain some knowledge about what we in agriculture will soon be facing. Kosciusko County is a rich agricultural county - this group's political efforts will make a definite impact on us.
Every individual needs certain proteins and minerals consumed to survive each day. The meat and dairy producers do not force everyone to eat their products, they produce it so that we can choose to eat nutritionally. So I ask what right does this group have to misrepresent themselves as your local humane society when they are trying to eliminate a big part of agriculture?
