Hugh Devon Mort, 73, of Silver Lake, died at 3:50 p.m. April 7, 2009, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born July 14, 1935, in Silver Lake, to Howard and Ruby Fisher Mort. In 1971, in Pierceton, he married Margaret Morgan, who survives.

A lifetime Silver Lake resident, he retired from Chore-Time Brock in 1998, and attended Silver Creek of God, Silver Lake. He was a member of the National Guard.

Also surviving are a daughter, Wendy (and spouse Michael) Shelpman, Silver Lake; a son, Leonard (and spouse Dawn) Gagnon, Silver Lake; six grandchildren: Joshua Seitner; Nicholas, Christopher and Jeremy Gagnon; and Heather and Marah Shelpman; and close friends, Elmer and Gerry Compton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Zennis Reed.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Silver Creek Church of God, Silver Lake, with Pastor Tom Craig officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Silver Creek Cemetery.

Calling is from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
