He was born Nov. 29, 1950, in Stonega, Va., to James and Belvia Hayes Sturgill.
He entered the U.S. Army Jan. 14, 1969. He served in Vietnam with the 11th Calvary Regiment – Black Horse. Specialist 5 Hubert Wayne Sturgill was honorably discharged April 28, 1978. Moving to the Warsaw area from Virginia 17 years ago, he was a coal miner at Westmoreland Coal Co. retiring in 1993. He was a life member of the 11th Armored Cavalry’s Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia.
Surviving are four sons: Robert Sturgill (and Cheryl Wise), Goshen; Noah Sturgill, North Webster; and Joseph (and spouse Elaine) Sturgill and James (and spouse Leslie) Sturgill, all of Warsaw; a daughter, Donata Sturgill, Columbia City; four sisters: Jenny Rogers and Nellie Fryman, both of Indianapolis; Marie Wright, Louisa, Ky.; and Alice Hughes, Syracuse; a brother, Ray Sturgill, Syracuse; and a grandson, Nicholas Godsey. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Christopher Sturgill.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Rex Sheeley officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military graveside honors by members of Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
