AKRON – Howard Hunter, 86, Akron, died at 5:20 a.m. Jan. 20, 2016, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, after being hospitalized Saturday.
He was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Kosciusko County, to Herschel “Bud” and Helen Speicher Hunter. On Sept. 11, 1949, in Akron, he married Marian Musial, who survives in Akron.
He had worked for Pike Lumber, Akron, for 17 years and retired from Moore Business Forms, Rochester.
He was a graduate of Sidney High School in 1947.  He served in the Indiana National Guard for eight years. He attended the Akron Church of God for 57 years. He enjoyed the Cubs and the Colts, drinking coffee at the restaurant, and loved gardening and sharing what he grew with everyone.
Also surviving are two daughters, Shirley (and spouse Ron) Smith, Fishers, and Debra (and spouse Tim) Mills, Perrysville, Ohio; a son, Larry (and spouse Lana) Hunter, Akron; seven grandchildren: Dustin, Jill, Bret, Andy, Kari, Ryan and Ashley; nine great-grandchildren: Kayla, Maddie, Jace, Rily, Breanna, Macey, Sadie, Hunter and Skylar; and a sister, Lucy (and spouse Bill) Smith, Pierceton. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Elsie Engle.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Akron Church of God, with Pastor Ryan Chapman officiating.
Calling is an hour prior to the service Saturday at the church, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
