Howard "Bud" Ashley, 84, of 2753 Del Lago Court, Avon Park, Fla., died at 10:20 p.m. March 19, 2007, in his residence.

He was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Pierceton, to Harry A. and Mary F. Houser Ashley. In 1946, he married Mary Elizabeth Huff, who survives.

A lifetime resident of Pierceton and Warsaw, he was a fourth-generation funeral director in Kosciusko County, retiring as a funeral director at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in 1989. He was a member of Union Congregational Church, Avon Park; American Legion Post 258 and Mason Temple 377, both in Pierceton; Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne Valley and Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne; and Elks Lodge 902, Warsaw. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific in the U.S. Army medical corps.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jayne E. Ashley, Winter Haven, Fla., and Joann Gretchell, Indianapolis; and five grandchildren, Karrie, Jamie, Eric, Andrew and Alex.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Dr. Howard Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.
