Holterman Makes All-Star Pitch
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Wawasee graduate Rod Holterman will compete in the North-South All-Star game at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion on Saturday and Sunday.
Holterman was named as a second-team all-state performer after an 11-4 season in which he helped the Warriors reach the regional for the first time since 1993.
For Holterman it was all about honor.
"It's quite an honor to be named second team all-state. It's a dream come true. As a kid, you always want to be one of the best players in the state. Personally, I don't think I am."
Holterman was not named to the team because of his superb record alone. He also had a 1.28 ERA and struck out 132 batters in 93 innings, while only walking 17 hitters.
"The season was tremendous," Holterman said. "There is nothing I'd go back and change. It was great to win the first sectional for Coach Blunk at Wawasee."
Holterman will head to Marion on Friday to begin practicing with the team. Although he's not sure how many opportunities he will get to pitch, he is going to try to use the games as a chance to showcase his talents for the future. He still has not decided on a college to pitch at and is looking to see if he can get a few more offers.
"I just hope to go down there and get my chance," Holterman said. "I'll give it my best shot."
Holterman ended his high school career at Wawasee with a 14-8 record. He was the winner in all three of Wawasee's sectional games this year. In the regional, he had a shutout until the seventh inning when Plymouth fought back for a 3-2 win to end the Warriors season.
On Saturday, Holterman's North squad will play the South team in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. On Sunday, there will be a home run derby at 2 p.m. followed by a third game. [[In-content Ad]]
