Hodges Subdivison residents had the opportunity Tuesday night to hear an update on the second phase of the Beyer Farm Trail during an information meeting at city hall.

"The meeting is an opportunity for residents to ask questions, we don't want them to look out their window and not know what is going on," said Warsaw Community Development Coordinator Gisele Cox.[[In-content Ad]]A meeting previously was held in April 2006, and a dozen Hodges Subdivision residents attended to share their concerns and ask questions regarding the second phase of the trail.

Construction of the second phase of Beyer Farm Trail began in 2004 with the asphalt portion around the south side of Kosciusko Community Hospital.

The boardwalk section south of the hospital through the wetlands and over the Beyer Brady Ditch was completed in February.

The second asphalt portion and final link of the second phase of the trail will be completed this year and will connect the trail to Hodges Subdivision at Lindberg Drive and Harrison Street and the Meadowbrook Subdivision, Cox said.

The project was approved in 1999 by the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety.

The second phase of the Beyer Farm Trail will be .5 miles and plans are to have it completed this summer.

The second phase of the trail will have access at Lindberg Drive and Harrison Street, but there will be no public parking. Parking will be provided at the trailhead on Provident Drive.

The Lake City Greenway Steering Committee's goal of linking residents to amenities within the community via alternate transportation is becoming a reality with the completion of the Chinworth Bridge Trail completed in 2007 and the second phase of the Beyer Farm Trail in 2008, according to Cox.

Planning of the Beyer Farm Trail began in 1999 with completion and a grand opening celebration of the first phase in July 2003.

The first phase is .75 miles long and begins at the trailhead-parking lot on Provident Drive next to Warsaw Women's Center and connects to Pike Lake Park and Campground.
