Hobbs Returns To Full Duty In Milford

MILFORD -ÊMilford Town Marshal David Hobbs was authorized to return to unrestricted full-time duty Monday by the Milford Town Council.

Hobbs passed his last physical medical examination.

In June 1998, Hobbs was seriously injured when his motorcycle hit a pickup at the intersection of Armstrong Road and CR 350E, near Oswego. Hobbs was off duty at the time of the accident.

During the first week of January this year, Hobbs had his hip replaced.

Hobbs has served as Milford's marshal since June 1978. Chief Deputy Marshal Lou Mediano acted as town marshal until Hobbs returned.

In other business:

• The council changed the speed limit on Smith and Williams streets from 30 to 20 miles per hour.

• Kent Sawyer was recognized as the Kosciusko County EMS driver of the year.

• Milford will apply for a federal COPS grant for another officer for the town. The grant would provide 75 percent of the funds and the town must provide 25 percent.

• The Milford Police Department is looking into purchasing cellular phones for department use.

• Milford Fest plans are in progress. Applications to have floats in the parade are available in the town clerk's office.

• The utility department will purchase two hand-held radios and two vehicle-mounted radios for $1,932.

• Mosquito fogging will start as needed. Parents are encouraged not to let their children follow the fogging truck.

• Dixon Engineering, Odessa, Mich., will inspect the town's water tower and formulate bid specs for repainting and refinishing the tower for $1,960.

• Phend & Brown will mill and repave the Main Street alley for $10,172.

• Air Markings will restripe streets for $2,495. The streets have not been restriped for several years.

• The landscaping for the town hall is complete. "It looks very good," said Charlotte Siegfried, town clerk.

• The town council discussed the rezoning of a property adjacent to the town. The council will work with the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission, the property owners and the developers on the issues that concern the town.

Dennis L. Replogle is petitioning the plan commission to rezone property from an agricultural district to a residential and agricultural II district. The property is on the north side of Beer Road, 1,180 feet east of Shaeffer Street in Van Buren Township. CR 1250N is to the north of the property and Beer Road is to the South.

The property is divided by Turkey Creek. All the land to the west of Turkey Creek is proposed to go to residential, while land to the east of the creek is proposed to go to agricultural II.

• Town clerk Charlotte Siegfried will attend the Indiana State Board of Accounts School June 6-8.

• The council discussed the Economic Development Income Tax, how the town could get their share of the funds and how they will use it.
