This is a letter to all the businesses in Warsaw and the surrounding area. I am puzzled why you are refusing to hire qualified employees 50 years of age or over. Other reasons are given as excuses for not hiring such a person, but it is very easy to see through the fact that age discrimination takes place all the time in spite of the fact that it is illegal.

With the economy and conditions in this country like they have been for quite some time for many of us, the funds some older workers were fortunate enough to be able to put back for their retirement, in many instances, do not begin to meet expenses these days so people are having to work longer or go back to work instead of being able to sit back and take life easy - true retirement. After paying bills these days, most of us have no extra funds left to do anything fun, go out for a nice meal, go to a movie or do anything for entertainment. How many people do you think there are who never earned enough to have the ability to put any money back toward retirement? Many Baby Boomers could still be good employees for a long, long time given the opportunity. You businesses are really losing out.

Do you leaders in the companies in this area realize what a wealth of loyalty, knowledge and experience you have in this community right under your noses in the form of possible employees? If not, I encourage you to give the next application you consider from someone 50 years old or over for a job opening much more serious consideration. Look into your future and ask yourself how you would like to be treated when you reach the age of 50 or over and still have a lot of life in you.

Are you looking for someone who is dependable? Do you need an employee who can work without constant supervision? Do you need someone who is motivated and will be a loyal employee? If you pass these people by, you could very well be missing out on a tremendous asset to your business.

Just because these people are 50 or over does not mean they should be written off as unemployable. These Baby Boomers are a hidden "gold mine" of possible employees. Please keep that thought in mind next time you are looking for a terrific employee.
