Hire Faces Six Years In Arson

A Nappanee man received a six-year sentence for a September fire in Syracuse.

Kyle Hire, 24, of 28760 CR 50, Nappanee, received a six-year prison term Wednesday.[[In-content Ad]]Hire can serve that term on work release if he qualifies. If he does qualify for work release, he will begin paying back $187,000 in restitution.

In a plea agreement signed Dec. 18, Hire plead guilty to arson, a Class B felony, and in exchange, a charge of burglary, a Class B felony, was dismissed.

Hire also received 286 days of good time credit.

Hire was arrested in September following a fire at 1400 Hillview Drive, Syracuse.

Hire suffered smoke inhalation during the blaze. While he was being transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital, he told paramedics he started the fire but did not give a reason why.

The blaze was contained within minutes, and no one besides Hire suffered any injuries.
