Bill and the former Bette Leisure were married July 8, 1961, in Tipton, by the Rev. Mitchell.
Bill worked in management in the aircraft industry and farmed for 35 years.
Bette was an educator in the Madison Grant School Corporation for 35 years and assisted Bill with the farming.
They were active in the Elwood First United Methodist Church where they served on several committees, and she served as president of the United Methodist Women for 10 years.
He enjoys boating on the lake and she enjoys gardening activities.
They retired to Sechrist Lake near Warsaw in 2006 after they retired from their farm near Point Isabel, where they lived in Grant County for 35 years.
The couple have three children: David Hiatt, Columbia City; Chris Hiatt, Rochester; and Leeanna Kirkwood, Fort Wayne; and four grandchildren.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Emerald Isle, N.C.[[In-content Ad]]
