Hey, Hey! Davey Jones Coming To Park

Activity director Janelle Wilson of the Warsaw parks department announced Davey Jones of the Monkees will be the Classic Rock Concert headliner June 18. Jones' appearance is part of a series of Friday night concerts sponsored by the department and area businesses scheduled throughout the summer.

Wilson's announcement came during Friday's Warsaw Board of Works meeting.

The streetscape project was tentatively awarded to Cluney Landscaping of Huntington. The company's bid came in at $186,085, more than $55,000 less than other bidders.

LandPlan Architects recommended the company for the bid, but a signature page was missing from Cluney's packet for acceptance. The item was tabled until all the paperwork could be secured.

The springtime project will include the addition of plantings and benches on Center Street from High Street to Washington Street.

In other business the board:

• Approved a taxicab permit for five vehicles for David Cesaretti.

Cesaretti owns Fast Cabs Taxi Co..

• Approved a contract with Northern Indiana Public Service Co. for electrical and natural gas service to hangars 24 through 29 at the Warsaw Municipal Airport.

• Accepted a letter of credit in the amount of $425,000 from Biggs Inc., Decatur. Biggs plans a 42 lot housing subdivision, commonly known as Harrison Landing north of Old Road 30E.

• Approved purchase of a Toro commercial mower, snow blower and attachments in the amount of $12,012 as requested by Oakwood Cemetery sexton David Shaw.

• Approved several contracts as requested by the parks department: with Bob Taylor and the Lake Area Community Band in the amount of $450 to appear July 30 in Central Park Plaza; with Marlene Lobsiger and The Music Express, $450, to appear June 11; With Sam Tash and the Northeast Indiana Banjo Society, $500 to appear Aug. 20; with Tim Anderson and the Bel Airs, $750 to appear July 9; with Todd Ward and the Blue River Big Band, $850 to appear June 25; and with Mark Seabury and Nostalgia as the Classic Rock Concert opening band, $500 to appear June 18.

• Gave permission for the parks department to apply for a $20,000 to the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County to support various summer concerts.

• Approved a $1,500 contract with Loraine Enterprises, Rome City, for an evaluation of the Warsaw Fire Department.

• Approved a certificate of substantial completion by Indiana Construction Corp. and Corporate Construction Inc. for work done at the new wastewater treatment plant.

• Approved Jennifer Whitaker, the new Human Resource director, the authority to sign all claims pertaining to the HR department and budget.

• Approved reapplication for STOP and VOCA grants as requested by the police department.

• Approved a $1,342 contract with Comfortemp to provide routine maintenance on the police department's rooftop heating and cooling units.

• Approved new hires for the street department - Justin Miner, Kevin Rynearson, Jeffery Mellott and David Hursey; and for the traffic commission - Luella "Ann" Sweet. Promotions were given to Joel Beam, WPD patrolman; Brad Kellar, a promotion to WPD corporal; and Janelle Wilson temporary park board secretary.

• Set an executive session to discuss personnel matters for Feb. 2 at 11 a.m., an open meeting will follow at 11:30 a.m.
