WELLSTON, Ohio – Herschel T. Griffith, 91, of Hamden, Ohio, passed away March 10, 2012, in his residence.

He was born Oct. 14, 1920, in McDowell, Ky., to Wayne and Virginia Clay Griffith. He married Ruby Terry, who survives.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and was retired from Crownover Lumber, McArthur.

Also surviving are his children: Kenner (and spouse Carolyn) Griffith, of Newport, Ky.; Linda (and spouse Harry) Lightfoot and Tina Harless, all of Hamden; Bonnie Hill, Wellston; Shirley Chesser, McArthur; James (and spouse Kathleen) Griffith and Donna (and spouse Barry) Ashton, all of Warsaw; Michael Griffith, Wabash; and Patty (and spouse Larry) Blessing, Londonderry; brothers, Paul and Truman Griffith, both of Kentucky; sisters, Glorafaye Sheperd and Doris Slone, both of Kentucky; 144 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sons, Anthony and Danny Griffith; a grandson, Jason Griffith; a sister, Audrey Thomas; and brothers, Dewey, Buddy, Cletus, Jimmy and Bobby Griffith.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McWilliams Funeral Home, 125 E. First St., Wellston, Ohio, with the Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Centerpoint Cemetery with military honors.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
