He was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Wabash County, to Walter A. and Mary E. Forney Coning. On Nov. 22, 1953, he married Phyllis Roth, who survives.
He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was a member of Old German Baptist Brethren Church, North Manchester, and a 1945 Chester High School graduate.
Also surviving are two sons, Randall (and spouse Darlene), Covington, Ohio, and Ronald (and spouse Mary), North Manchester; two daughters, Marsha (and spouse Bill) Miller, North Manchester, and Jalene (and spouse Jim) Hufford, Edgar, Wis.; three sisters, Eloise (and spouse Charlie) Brubaker, Evelyn (and spouse Morris) Cook and Agatha (and spouse Leon) Metzger, all of North Manchester; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Old German Baptist Brethren Church, North Manchester, with Home Brethren officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
