NORTH WEBSTER – Herbert R. “Herb” Gilmore Jr., 81, of North Webster, died at 2 a.m. Dec. 26, 2012, in his home.
He was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Cadiz, to Herbert R. and Clio Belle Yelton Gilmore. On Sept. 10, 1955, in Muncie, he married Sandra J. “Sandy” Sult, who survives in North Webster.
He graduated in 1949 from Anderson High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He had been a summer resident of North Webster for more than 40 years before moving there permanently 11 years ago. He was formerly employed at State Farm Insurance Co. in Muncie for 20 years and Kroger’s Supermarkets, in Muncie and Anderson, for 11 years. He formerly attended the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Muncie, and was a scout leader for the Boy and Cub Scouts, Muncie.
Also surviving are one daughter, Julie (and spouse Mike) Pierce, Columbia City; one son, Mark (and spouse DiAnn), Muncie; one sister, Shirley Ann Davis, Anderson; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one step great-grandson, Michael Pierce.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster, with Pastor Mike Beezley, Clunette United Methodist Church, officiating. Military graveside services will be at noon Monday at Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Pendleton, with Pastor Davis Smitley, North Webster United Methodist Church, officiating.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
