Herbert A. Sundheimer Jr., 83, of 1630 S. County Farm Road, Warsaw, died at 8:50 p.m. Jan. 12, 2009, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born April 10, 1925, in Wabash, to Herbert and Edna E. Parrett Sundheimer. On Aug. 13, 1977, he married Phyllis LaWanda Whetstone, who survives.

Living in Kosciusko County for the past 16 years, he retired as a machinist at Diehl Machines, Wabash. He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corp veteran, serving in Europe. He attended First Brethren Church, Warsaw; was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, Warsaw; and volunteered as a clown in the Peru Circus for many years.

Also surviving are two sons, Stanley (and spouse Jet) Sundheimer, Cicero, and Alan Sundheimer, Ellettsville; two daughters, Gaye (and spouse James) Haist, Wheaton, Ill., and Dina (and spouse Larry) Glass, Noblesville; three stepsons: Scott (and spouse Carol) Davis, Las Vegas, Nev.; Merle (and spouse Pat) Warren, Fort Wayne; and David VanderVeen, Chicago, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Judy Dewlen, Covington, and Darlene Goshert, Winona Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl (and spouse Lucy) Sundheimer, Urbana. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Falls Cemetery, Wabash, with Pastor Ronnie Sams officiating and with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and VFW 1126, both in Warsaw.

No calling is planned.
