Herbert A. Dye III, 78, of Warsaw, died at 4:50 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008, in his residence, surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 22, 1930, in Johnstown, Pa., to Herbert A. II and Jane Bowen Dye. On Oct. 26, 1952, in Warsaw, he married JoAnne Heagy, who died June 30, 1982. On June 17, 1988, in Warsaw, he married Sandie S. Stevenson, who survives.

He was owner of Dye Music Center for 23 years; and worked in the parts department of the street department for the city of Warsaw. He was a member of Elks Club 802 and American Legion Post 49. He encouraged and followed many personally known musicians and musical groups. He was certified as an Eagle Scout on April 26, 1948, and was a past Scoutmaster. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his family. He entered the U.S. Air Force in February 1952, serving in the Korean War and was honorably discharged March 30, 1956.

Also surviving are a son, Daniel H. (and spouse Carolyn) Dye, Warsaw; a daughter, Kitty Dye, Warsaw; a stepson, Robert H. (and spouse Anne) Stevenson, Warsaw; a stepdaughter, Jennifer L. Stevenson, Warsaw; a sister, Debbie (and spouse Bruce) Bricker, Leesburg; grandchildren: Bradley and Ryan Dye, both of Warsaw; Aimee (and spouse Carlos) Soria, Goshen; Annie (and spouse Kyle) Wilson, Indianapolis; and Bobby Dye; step-grandchildren, Tré and Megan Stevenson, both of Warsaw; great-grandchildren, Bradley and Bentley Dye, and Austin and Erica Delgado; a niece, Laurie (and spouse Kevin) Vachon, Fort Wayne; and three nephews, Bob Dye, Denson, Texas; Bill Dye, Monroe, Calif.; and Ben Dye, Sherman, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Jodi Stackhouse, who died May 12, 1985, and Barbara Dye, who died May 12, 1997; and a brother, Jack R. Dye, who died April 9, 2000.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with the Rev. Bill Dye, his nephew, officiating. A military graveside service will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
