Hendix Leaving Whitko

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

Whitko Community School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Jeff Hendrix plans to resign at tonight's school board meeting. He accepted a job at Marion Community Schools.

Hendrix said he is excited about the new challenges and opportunities he'll have at the helm of the bigger school corporation in Marion. But, when he begins work there, July 12, Hendrix said, he'll miss some things about Whitko. "I'm going to miss working with the folks," he said. "I'd love to take several of them with me."

Hendrix said his four years at Whitko have been marked by positive change. "It's been a corporation that has been focused on improvement for several years now," he said. "They're willing to change and to face change."

The school corporation recently finished a $6.4 million building project. Other changes, Hendrix said, have focused on students' performance. "There's very strong leadership in this school corporation," Hendrix said. "The teachers are very committed to raising student achievement."

Hendrix said he's proud of the improvements the school corporation has made. "We've accomplished quite a bit here at Whitko, and I'm proud to say they're going to continue in that direction for years to come," he said.

Hendrix said the Whitko school corporation still has challenges to face. He said connection to school staff and the community will play a key role in the success of the superintendent hired to replace him.

"The key here is to focus on those relationships and really get to know the community," Hendrix said.

The other key, he said, will be marketing the school system. "If we're going to be attractive and bring people into the corporation, we need to focus on public relations and really sell Whitko to people," he said. "Whitko is the best kept secret. It's a very good value and a very good education. When I look back on my four years here, I'll have a lot of fond memories."[[In-content Ad]]
