Before that day, she was a mother of three, a sister, daughter and friend.
That day she found out she had breast cancer.
Since then, by her own admission, the disease now defines who Rodgers is.
“My whole life has changed,” said Rodgers. “It’s not about my kids anymore but about doctor appointments and radiation and chemotherapy.”
Friday, Rodgers was able to escape, if just for a day, and feel like she felt before that day last November.
Her sister, Tina Bailey, nominated Rodgers through the Hello Gorgeous program. It’s a program designed to provide women battling all forms of cancer a chance to get out for a day and enjoy spa treatments.
Expression Salon and Day Spa in Warsaw was certified as a location for the Hello Gorgeous program around the time Bailey applied.
Bailey said after she applied, it took weeks before she heard back. Then five weeks later, she was told her application had been received but not everyone was accepted.
Two weeks later, Bailey was told her sister would get her day.
To make it a surprise, Bailey told Rodgers they were taking their mother, Minnie, to get a pedicure at Expression.
Rodgers said she planned to do some shopping, but was overwhelmed when she walked in to the salon and found out everyone was waiting for her.
Rodgers received a manicure, pedicure, make-up, a facial and a styled wig because of hair loss from the chemo and radiation.
With breast cancer, Rodgers said, it attacks your womanhood.
“Today was special because I felt like a girl again,” said Rodgers.
Emotions were even higher Friday as the day before marked Rodgers’ loss of her husband, who died in a auto accident eight years earlier.
On Thursday, while in the fight of her life with breast cancer, Rodgers visited his grave.
“She’s just been through so much,” said Bailey.
After Rodgers was surprised at the salon, she was then revealed to awaiting friends and family.
The FILM Project was on hand to take photos of Rodgers with her family.
Standing for Family Images for Lasting Memories, the project donates family portraits to cancer patients through volunteer photographers.
Leah Hoskins, president and founder of the FILM Project, and volunteer photographer Kacie Zolman were on hand for Friday’s activities.
“It really gives them a sense of feeling normal again,” said Expressions co-owner Linda Mills. “It’s quite an emotional day for everyone involved.”
This was the first spa day Expressions gave out through the Hello Gorgeous program, but they plan to do one every month.
“I didn’t even think about having cancer once today,” said Rodgers.
“That’s it right there,” said Bailey holding back tears. “Her saying that is what I did this for. To give her one day.”
