MARION - Helen W. Piper, 90, died Aug. 2, 2007, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.

She was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Grant County, to Corbett E. and Nellie E. Smith Way. On June 1, 1935, she married Lowell D. Piper, who died in 1982.

A graduate of Sweetser High School, she was a longtime resident of Sweetser. She retired from Marion National Bank where she worked for many years as a teller in the downtown office and the north and south branches. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Silver Lake and wintered in Daytona Beach, Fla. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Swayzee Eastern Star and past president of Current Opinion Club. She was a member of the Sweetser United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Keith W. Piper, Sun City, Ariz.; Stephen L. Piper, Converse; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, Marion, with the Rev. Mick Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Sweetser.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. An Eastern Star Service will be at 2 p.m.
