REXBURG, Idaho - Helen Mae Phillips Davis, 89, died Jan. 27 2008.

She was born June 12, 1918, in Galein, Mich., to Clarence E. and Mary Lucy Horan Phillips. On March 18, 1943, she married Russell Lowell Hart. They divorced. On Feb. 14, 1961, she married Dr. William Harris Davis, and lived happily with him until his death in 1993.

She moved back to Indiana nine years ago to stay with her sister, Carol Olesek, who preceded her in death. Four years ago, she moved to Idaho to stay with her granddaughter, Mary Harrison.

She attended school in Michigan and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Indiana University. Her parents and sister eventually moved to Warsaw, where they spent the rest of their lives. She remained an avid fan of Hoosier basketball and an active member of Chi Omega Sorority. She taught elementary school Fort Wayne for a few years, and in the Los Angeles school district for 22 years.

Survivors include her two stepchildren, James Martin Hart and Marjorie Diane Granville Thurman, both of California; two nephews, Paul (and spouse Heidi) Phillips, Florida, and John (and spouse Kathy) Olesek, Alabama; a niece, Nancy (and spouse Richard) Felber, Florida; a granddaughter, Mary Carol Harrison, Idaho; two great-grandchildren, William Clark Harrison and Loretta Hart Harrison, both of Idaho; and friend and caregiver, Deborah K. Moler. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Barbara Lynne Hart, but she longed to hold every baby she saw; and her sister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Flamm Funeral Home, Rexburg, Idaho. Burial will be in the Sugar City, Idaho, Cemetery.[[In-content Ad]]
