NORTH MANCHESTER – Helen L. Vandermark, 92, of North Manchester, died at 11:45 a.m. Feb. 18, 2012, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

She was born July 19, 1919, in North Manchester, to Chester E. and Lula D. Frederick Grossnickle. On Oct. 13, 1940, she married Orville L. Vandermark, who died April 29, 1995.

She was a secretary for Dr. J. Raymond Schultz at Standard Life Insurance Co., Indianapolis; was a clerk for the North Manchester Water Department; and from 1971-88, she was the manager of the North Manchester BMV License Branch, retiring in 1988. She was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester. She graduated from Central High School, North Manchester,  in 1936 and International Business College, Fort Wayne. She was active in local politics and was a former member of the Ivy Chapter 69 O.E.S., North Manchester.

Surviving are a son, Donald James (and spouse Pamela) Vandermark, Akron; two daughters, Judith K. (and spouse Jerry) Judjahn, Glendale, Ariz., and Nancy J. (and spouse Neil) Tate, North Manchester; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
