BOURBON - Helen J. Montgomery, 85, of Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, and formerly of Bourbon, died at 5:15 p.m. March 22, 2010.

She was born May 22, 1924, in Bourbon, to Walter Ray and Elva Corl Berkeypile Heckaman. On Dec. 26, 1946, she married Lewis Montgomery, who died Dec. 21, 1968.

A resident of Bourbon most of her life, she was a retired cook and waitress. She was a member of the Bourbon American Legion Auxiliary Post 424 and a 1942 graduate of Bourbon High School.

Surviving are three daughters: Karen Frick, Warsaw; Betty (and spouse Danny) Hawthorne, Navaree, Ohio; and Pamela (and spouse Tim) Loftus, Granger; three stepchildren, Gary (and spouse Norma) Montgomery, Bourbon, and Mike (and spouse Susan) Montgomery and June McCorkle, all of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren: Brian Lewis McGuigan, Kimberly Jane Shellenbarger, Jeffrey Dice, Stephanie Baltzer, Jennifer Curati, Danielle Temple, Eric Hawthorne and David, Chris, Carrie and Tim Loftus; 23 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Faye (and spouse Charles) King, Bourbon; Lois (and spouse Morris) Roahrig, Plymouth; Bonnie Craig, Nappanee; and Joyce Overmyer, Rochester; and two brothers, Roscoe (and spouse Mary) Heckaman, Argos, and Leroy (and spouse Marjorie) Heckaman, Bourbon. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Thomas McGuigan.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, with the Rev. Mark A. Day officiating. Burial will be in Etna Green Cemetery.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
