Helen B. Shafer, 93, Warsaw, passed away at 5 a.m. May 14, 2016, at Warsaw Meadows Care Center. She was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Mishawaka, to Mary Jane Drabenstott and William C. Schue. On Sept. 19, 1940, she married Robert E. Shafer, who passed away May 18, 1997. They shared 56 years of marriage together. She was a 1940 graduate of Warsaw High School and a member of Warsaw First Brethren Church since 1933, also having sung in the church choir for a number of years. Throughout her life she sent out many inspirational cards with words of encouragement. She once worked at Walter’s Drug Store, where she was an expert on Revlon Cosmetics, and she worked for many years at Da-Lite Screen, Warsaw, and retired in 1984. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, but most of all her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Anne K. Shafer, Warsaw; a son, Benjamin R. (and spouse Karla) Shafer, Mancelona, Mich.; four grandchildren: Greg Shafer, Tricia (and spouse Steve) LeCount and Stefanie (and spouse Andrew) Spangle, all of Warsaw; Wonnie Shafer, Tamarac, Fla.; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Schue, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, a great-grandson and a great-great-granddaughter. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Cheryl Kisner officiating. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
