COLUMBIA CITY - Hazel B. Sweeney, 93, of Columbia City, died at 12:27 a.m. March 13, 2008, at Miller's Merry Manor, where she was a resident since Feb. 13.

She was born March 7, 1915, in Pierceton, to Frank and Florence Anderson Gebert. In 1937, she married Harry Sweeney, who died in 1939. On June 8, 1940, she married James L. Sweeney, who died March 3, 1999.

She was a graduate of Pierceton High School and served as the assistant postmaster for the Larwill Post Office for 28 years before retiring in 1975. She was a member of Larwill United Methodist Church, Lady Shriner Mizpah Shrine, Columbia City Order of Eastern Star 65 and served as a former Worthy Matron of Larwill OES.

Surviving is a sister, Ruth Harris, Claypool. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the Rev. Gene Rohrer officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Larwill.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A twilight service conducted by the Columbia CIty OES 65 will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
