SYRACUSE - Hayes Porter Hidy, 95, of Leesburg, died at 2:55 p.m. May 2, 2007, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born May 18, 1911, in South Charleston, Ohio, to Lester and Sarah Porter Hidy. On Nov. 24, 1937, he married Harriet Lee Thomas, who died in 2002.
He was a butcher at Clauer Brothers Grocery from 1927-28; a salesman for H.J. Heinz Co. from 1936-40; and worked for Shatterproof-Glass Corp., Detroit, from 1940-76, retiring as a manufacturers representative.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Betty) Sombronsky, Syracuse; a son, John (and wife Shirley) Hidy, Leesburg; and six grandchildren: Jennifer Tuck, Andrea Hoeppner, John T., Christopher, Jeffrey and Jason Hidy; and four great-grandchildren: Joshua and Jackson Tuck, and Alexander and Jeffrey Hidy. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, Springfield, Ohio. Burial will be in Hidy Cemetery, Jeffersonville, Ohio.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home with a Masonic service.
