Harriet 'Terri' L. Wilder Scott

Harriet “Terri” L. Wilder Scott, 88,  of Warsaw and formerly of South Bend, passed away at 10:08 p.m. Jan. 25, 2012, in Lutheran Hospital,   Fort Wayne, surrounded by her husband, children and the prayers of her family.

She was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Mishawaka, to Elmer and Harriet Simmons Wilder, who both preceded her in death. On June 22, 1947, she married Lester L. Scott, who survives.

She attended Concordia Teachers College,  Riverside, Ill. She most recently worked at JC Penney, Warsaw, and formerly worked in South Bend at Magnum Security, Montgomery Ward, Richman Brothers, LS Ayres, Robertson’s, Associates, Memorial Hospital and Studebaker.

She had continued to be an avid member at Curves and provided care for her husband. She had long been a volunteer for the American Red Cross and donated blood regularly. Her kindness of spirit and concern for others had been witnessed as a generous supporter of multiple missions including those aiding Native Americans and children. She was well known as a dedicated church member, currently as a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Warsaw.  She has donated meals, supported clothing drives and previously sang in the choir and taught catechism class. She was a long-term member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Her passions included spending time with her family, selecting or making gifts and reading. She was a skilled seamstress and taught her children to sew as well as enjoying the ability to make baby gifts for her great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her children: Michael (and spouse Evelyn) Scott and Julie (and spouse Gary) Bowers, all of Warsaw; Janet (and spouse Stan) Zeck,   Chesterton; and Jennifer Scott, South Bend; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of her 18th great-grandchild to be born in April. In addition, she is survived by sisters,  Ella Nurenburg, South Bend, and Martha Heuberger,  Bremen. She also was preceded in death by  two brothers, Duane and Paul.

In the spirit in which she lived, she donated her body to IU Medical Center to further the advancement of medicine.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of this dynamic woman will be at noon Saturday at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S. High St., Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Erik Ohman.

Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
