AKRON – Harriet “Jean” Conner, 85, Akron, died at 4:30 a.m. Oct. 29, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Miami County to Edwin and Florence Larson Feller. On Dec. 1, 1946, in Santa Fe, Ind., she married Harold E. Conner, who passed away Sept. 9, 2000.
She started out as a bookkeeper for the Farm Bureau Elevator in Santa Fe in the ’40s while she was in high school. After graduating, she was a bookkeeper for various businesses in Akron. Later she served as the Henry Township trustee from 1983 to 1987. She then began working in the Fulton County license branch. In 1989 she began serving on the Henry Township Advisory Board. While on the board she served as town clerk until 1992. In 1995 she became the vice chairman of the Republican Party of Precinct 3. Also in 1995 she completed a term on Akron Town Council, and then she ran and was elected to the council in 1996 and completed her term in 2000.
She graduated from Butler Township High School in 1945. She and her husband, Harold, were members of the Akron United Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Fulton County Republican Women’s Club. She was a member of the Classic Dance Club of Warsaw and the Moose Lodge of Rochester. She was very proud of her years of public service, her children, as well as her grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy (and spouse Dana) Vaughn, Akron; two sons, Rod (and spouse Angela) Conner, Rochester, and Dean Conner, Kankakee, Ill.; four granddaughters: Ashley (and spouse Matt) Sutter;         Alisha (and spouse Jeff) Coby; Leah (and spouse Ryan) Boyles; and Shelby Simonsen; two step-grandchildren, Leia (and spouse David) Poskey, and Robert (and spouse Kae) Vaughn; seven great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Nathan, Alexa and Lilly Sutter, Madeline and Lane Coby, and Anthony Vaughn; great-great-grandchild, Carlie Sutter; a sister, Mary Weller, Kokomo; and two brothers, Larry (and spouse Carolie) Feller, Peru, and Danny (and spouse Janice) Feller, Bunker Hill. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, John E. Conner, who died in 1968, and a daughter-in-law, Lorriane Conner, who died in 2011.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor David Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
