Harold J. "Hal" Smith, 78, of 1 EMS B37 Lane Lot 55, Warsaw, died at 2:15 p.m. June 14, 2007, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Mentone, to Floyd E. and Hazel Ethel Swihart Smith. On Aug. 16, 1950, in Indianapolis, he married Janet "Jan" Ashby, who survives.

A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, he was service manager at Bledsoe Buick Pontiac for 25 years and Bruce Petro GM for 10 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Masonic Temple Warsaw Lodge 73 and Mizpah Shrine, Fort Wayne, and past president of Kosciusko County Shrine Club, Mini Bike Patrol and Mizpah Dune Patrol. He was a 1947 Pierceton High School graduate.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Phil (Deb) Brown, Warsaw, and Mrs. Russ (Peg) Rainwater, Stilwell, Kan.; a son, Mike (and wife Jan) Smith, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren: Kevin (and wife Cindy) Brown, Katrina Moyer and Korey Brown, all of Warsaw; Mrs. Trent (Tanya) Gordon, Wellsville, Kans.; and Tara, Jamie, Cassie and Chelsey Smith, all of Fort Wayne; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Art Smith.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with Chaplain Tom Everett officiating.

No calling is planned.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
