SYRACUSE - Harold H. "Jesse" Hughes, 80, of Syracuse, died at 5:30 p.m. June 18, 2007, in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse.

He was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Syracuse, to John and Valerie Lucille Hoppel Hughes. On Nov. 28, 1971, he married Ruth Maxine Leiter Warner, who survives.

A lifetime area resident, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. In January 1992, he retired from Penn Johnson Controls after 50 years, and worked for the Syracuse Fire & EMS for more than 45 years.

Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Laura L. Warner, Syracuse; three stepsons: Larry D. Warner, Mesquite, N.M.; James Robert Warner, California; and Richard A. Warner, Middleburg, Fla.; a sister, Hattie D. Adams, Louisiana; three brothers: Robert Hughes, Las Vegas; Joe Hughes, Syracuse; and Lamar Hughes, Missouri; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, with the Rev. Ken Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Syracuse.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
