Their Habitat For Humanity of Kosciusko home was dedicated during a ceremony Sunday at 549 E. Market St.
The home is next to the other Habitat home at 559 E. Market St. that was dedicated in November 2011.
Groundbreaking on Jones’ home began March 22 with the first volunteer day April 4, and May 27 was the final construction day.
Habitat staff, volunteers, Jones’ family members and the community gathered Sunday for the dedication. The home marked the 18th in Kosciusko County for Habitat.
The Jones will move into the home June 30 after a concrete driveway has been laid, as well as steps installed to the exterior of the home.
This was the first Habitat home in Kosciusko County built by all women. Nearly 200 volunteers contributed to the three-bedroom home that has a kitchen, living room and a bathroom.
Jones worked along side the volunteers during the home’s construction. She is a student at Ivy Tech Community College, Warsaw, studying social work, and has been an account specialist for the past four years at Helvey & Associates.
Jones and her son were previously living with her parents. Her father died in June 2012 from cancer, and her mother died in September from renal failure.
Jones said it is a blessing to receive the home, and said she enjoyed volunteering to build the home with other volunteers.
“I met so many women who helped volunteer and learned new skills, including drywalling, roofing, using nail guns, drills and saws,” Jones said.
Jones’ cousin, Callie Green, was one of the family members who attended Sunday’s dedication.
Green helped install windows and nailing of the home.
“It means a lot for Diane to have a home of her home, and our family is happy for her,” Green said.
During the dedication, Pastor Stuart Floyd, Redeemer Lutheran Church, said a prayer for the Jones family.
Christon Clark, Habitat executive director, presented Don Laughlin, home construction manager, with a framed photo of the home.
Clark said for people to qualify for the Habitat home there must be a need and ability for the homeowner to re-pay the mortgage.
Kellie Malcolm, Malcolm & Associates, presented Jones with a Bible, and Clark presented Jones with keys to the home.
Collier’s Heating & Air Conditioning donated a heating ventilation and cooling system for the home. Niff-tone donated roofing materials, and Whirlpool donated appliances including a refrigerator and stove.
Laughlin said it has been a privilege to lead the construction of the home.
“I can’t think of a more deserving person to receive this home,” Laughlin said.
