Gun Rights

I attended last week’s Chamber of Commerce Meet the Candidate Night. I want to thank the Chamber for hosting this event. It was a good opportunity to hear from each of the candidates.
What I’m still thinking about is the difference between Kubacki and Nisly on gun rights. Twice, Kubacki said something like, “None of us here are concerned about losing our guns.” That caught my attention because I know many gun owners in our area who are concerned about losing their guns. That risk is elevated in states like Illinois, California, Connecticut and New York, just to name four.
Representative Kubacki, why shouldn’t we be concerned? At the federal level, there are concerns whether the Department of Justice and the Health Department have plans for national gun registration which may be a step toward gun confiscation. Perhaps it’s just a rumor, but it causes a concern.
By contrast, Nisly seemed to have a more common sense comment when he said “gun-free zones” are the problem, not the solution.
Kubacki has said she has based some of her votes on the advice of experts, even when those experts disagree with her constituents. Is this also true about gun rights? Is Kubacki telling us not to be concerned about our ability to have guns because experts have told her not to be concerned? Common sense tells me to be concerned.
Kubacki also said she is endorsed by the NRA. I am a member of the NRA, so I went to their website and found that she is not endorsed by the NRA. How could she be mistaken?
This is an additional reinforcement that Nisly better represents my views. That’s why I encourage people to Choose Wisely, Vote Nisly.
