Warsaw police investigators have solved a recent west-side home burglary and made two arrests.
On Wednesday, Warsaw police took a burglary report after the homeowner returned home and found the house ransacked and multiple articles missing, including a handgun, according to a Warsaw Police Department press release.
A hidden spare key was used to gain entry into the home, which led detectives to family members.
The investigation led police to the homeowner’s granddaughter and her boyfriend. Detectives learned the pair used the hidden key to enter the home to initially steal the grandmother’s prescription medications, but once inside took checkbooks, money, gift cards, purses, a mini fridge and the Smith and Wesson handgun, among other items.
On Thursday, police detectives interviewed the 18-year-old granddaughter, Alexis Henry, Warsaw, and charged her with burglary to a dwelling, a class B felony. She was also charged with class D felony theft. She is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $2,000 surety bond.
Investigators contacted Alexis’ boyfriend, Ritchie Hernandez Jr., 21, also of Warsaw, and recovered all the stolen items, including the handgun. Hernandez had filed off the serial numbers on the gun.
Hernandez was booked into the jail and charged with burglary to a dwelling, a class B felony; possession of an altered handgun, a class C felony; and theft, a class D felony.
He also had a warrant for failure to appear for a traffic violation out of Marshall County. He is being held with no bond.
Warsaw police were assisted in their investigation by the Kosciusko County Major Crimes Task Force.[[In-content Ad]]
