Cognate areas are: leadership, literacy, special education, Christian school teaching or generalist. The program ends with a professional capstone course in which candidates present a portfolio to document their professional growth during the program. Professional development plans address the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Courses and course assignments assist candidates to meet the objectives of the professional development plans that teachers must submit to the Indiana Professional Standards Board for license renewal. Candidates also develop knowledge and skills needed to apply for National Board Certification. Upon completion of the M.Ed. program, candidates will be equipped to serve in a variety of leadership roles in their schools.
The M.S. in Instructional Leadership program is designed for business professionals who are responsible for training employees. To earn the M.S. degree, a candidate must complete 36 credit hours, including a core of 24 credit hours and a 12-hour cognate area that is designed to address the unique needs of corporate trainers. Candidates also can complete this program in two years, with courses offered through a combination of on-campus and online opportunities.
