Jared J. Mannarino, 24, of Fort Wayne, is being charged with carrying a handgun without a permit.
Grace College contacted Winona Lake Police Department with a report of a student with a handgun while in class.
WLPD, along with one Indiana State Police officer, met with Campus Safety personnel at the location and asked the student to step out of the classroom.
Once outside the classroom, the student’s backpack was removed from his person and he stated the gun was in the backpack. A handgun was located, which was not loaded, and confiscated from the student.
Mannarino was transported to WLPD and questioned about his possession of the weapon and it was determined Mannarino did not possess a handgun permit. Mannarino had applied for a permit but had not received it at the time of arrest. He was also in violation of Grace College rules that prohibit the possession of a firearm on campus.
At no time did Mannarino threaten anyone and there was no danger to any person. Mannarino was cooperative with the police and Campus Safety personnel. The weapon was not loaded when confiscated.
Mannarino was transported to the Kosciusko County Jail and booked for carrying a handgun without a permit, a Class A misdemeanor. Bond was set at $500.[[In-content Ad]]
