Grace Regains Stride With 3-1 Win Over Goshen

The Lady Lancers (11-1-2, 3-1-2 Crossroads League) had three different goal scorers in the win.
Grace enjoyed a majority of possession and shot attempts in the match, outshooting the Maple Leafs (4-10-1, 0-5-1 CL) 27-5 overall.
The first half was especially dominant for Grace. Most of the action took place in Grace’s attacking third of the field, resulting in a 19-0 advantage in shots before halftime.
Carianne Sobey was the first to break onto the scoreboard. She received a pass from Maile Grout, dribbled to the side and unleased a nearly 30-yard blast that beat the goalkeeper to the far post in the 12th minute.
Jordan Hairgrove and Meghan Wiles had good chances that nearly scored for Grace shortly after Sobey’s goal. Emma Neahusan took a deep shot that forced a diving save by Goshen, and Shelby Fort had a fantastic individual move on the right side of the box, ending in a shot on the endline that was saved.
Grace doubled its advantage in the 41st minute. The Lady Lancers built up possession on the left side. Mallory Rondeau touched a pass to Meredith Hollar, and the junior drilled a shot from outside the penalty box to make the score 2-0.
Grace had 19 shots and six corner kicks in the first half, compared to zero shots and zero corner kicks for Goshen.
The Maple Leafs managed to cut Grace’s lead in half, however, converting on a loose ball in the box after a free kick at the 59:47 mark.
Grace responded with a third goal at the 78:36 mark. Wiles took a 20-yard shot near the center of the field which found the bottom-right corner of the net.
For the match, Grace had 15 of its 27 shots on goal. The Lady Lancers had a 10-2 advantage in corners. Wiles led all players with seven shots, while Sobey added four. Twelve of the 19 players who saw time for Grace recorded a shot.
Abby Schue earned the win in goal, making three saves in 90 minutes.
