By Staff Report-

CHICAGO, Ill. – A woeful shooting performance handed Grace’s men’s basketball team an 82-65 defeat to No. 8 Robert Morris on Thursday.
The Lancers (5-5) shot less than 39 percent from the floor and made 10-of-20 from the foul line (50 percent) to fade away in the second half.
The teams traded small leads over the first 15 minutes of action in Chicago as a 3-pointer from Brandon Vanderhegghen lifted Grace to an 18-16 lead.
Robert Morris used a 15-3 run late in the half, however, to edge ahead of Grace. The Eagles (7-3) claimed a 38-30 lead into halftime.
The Lancers refused to go down without a fight, however, as baskets from Logan Irwin and Jared Treadway brought Grace back to within four points at 50-46. Grace also cut Robert Morris’s lead down to two possessions with 5:22 remaining on another 3-pointer from Vanderhegghen.
But Robert Morris held Grace scoreless over the next three minutes, allowing the Eagles to pull away late for a 17-point victory.
Grace’s loss is its fourth straight of the young season, including two defeats to teams ranked in the NAIA’s top 10.
Brandon Vanderhegghen led Grace in scoring off the bench with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Logan Irwin added 10 points and three assists, and Greg Miller tallied 9 points, 10 boards and 2 blocks.
Niko Read chipped in nine points, Brock McFarland added seven, and Jared Treadway had six points and five rebounds.
The Lancers will hope to get back on track next week with a unique trip to Puerto Rico. Grace will take on three NCAA Division II schools in Puerto Rico, including UPR-Rio Piedras, UPR-Mayaguez and UPR-Bayamon.[[In-content Ad]]
