Grace College's Moats Makes Hall Of Fame

Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minn., announced that Grace College volleyball coach Candace Moats is one of the first inductees into the Crown College Hall of Fame.

Moats, who played volleyball and basketball for the Crusaders, graduated in 1984. From 1985 through 1995, she served as a coach and was a member of the physical education department. She was athletic director from 1991 through 1995.

As a basketball player, Moats led the team to four straight Northern Intercollegiate Christian Conference championships, one NICC Tournament championship and three straight national championships in the National Bible College Athletic Association. She was named to the All-Conference team four times and to the All-American team three times.

The volleyball teams she played for earned two conference championships and two first-place tournament finishes. She was also named to the All-Conference volleyball team three times.

Her successes followed her into her coaching career. Under Moats, the volleyball program earned four district championships and six national appearances. Her teams posted two National Christian College Athletic Association national championships and finished as an NCCAA runner-up twice. She was elected Coach of the Year for her district five times. She earned Coach of the Year honors for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference of the NAIA twice and was also awarded the National Coach of the Year for the NCCAA twice.

"They were loyal to me," said Moats of the people she met at Crown. "They believed in me. They saw my potential and helped me become who I am. They showed me opportunities and doors to walk through that helped me never step back but always go forward. They taught me how to dream."

Moats' successes did not stop once she left Crown College.

At Grace College, her volleyball teams won NCCAA Division I championships in her first two years. Grace also has won three Midwest Region championships and four NAIA Conference championships under Moats. Moats was elected NCCAA Division I National Coach of the Year in 1996.
