Grace College President Dr. Ron Manahan was scheduled to testify today before a Congressional Subcommittee in Washington, D.C. on ways the institution has made college affordable.

Manahan was set to testify at 10 a.m. before the Congressional Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training in Washington, D.C.

Invited to join a small panel of pioneering educators, Manahan was to advise the subcommittee on Grace's innovative campaign to make college affordable.

The hearing is titled “Keeping College within Reach: Discussing Ways Institutions Can Streamline Costs and Reduce Tuition,” at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.

Manahan received a letter of invitation from Subcommittee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx.

Manahan was asked to represent Grace College due to its innovative “Reimagine” campaign and the launch of its 3-year accelerated degree program, which is available for each of Grace’s more than 50 majors.

Manahan was slated to be given five minutes during which to present his oral testimony; he also submitted a longer written statement, which will be included in the hearing record.

Members of the committee had five minutes each to ask questions of the witnesses and to comment on the testimonies.

“It is an honor to be invited by Subcommittee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx to address the distinguished Congressional Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training,” Manahan said.

“These difficult economic conditions necessarily require higher ed institutions to address affordability for students and families.”

He said it is a great privilege to represent Grace College’s administration, faculty, and staff.

He said they have worked tirelessly to find a balance between pricing and value that maintains the college’s mission, tradition, and heritage, and yet adequately addresses the financial needs of students and the institution.
